Sea scouts face eviction

GROUP of Northside sea scouts are fearing for their future following the shock news that the Government is considering evicting them from their home of over 20 years. Howth Sea Scouts have been based in their den on the West Pier since 1987 when they first transformed a vacant site through their own hard work and determination. Now the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food say the group’s lease has expired and they will have to find alternative accommodation so their building can be rented out as a commercial space. Council determined to collect levies

FINGAL County Council has said that it will not hesitate to take legal action against builders who default on payments of development levies. According to the latest figures the council is owed e150 million in levies under the Development Contribution Scheme. There are almost 700 planning permissions where levies are outstanding, something the council maintains it is working to address.

History of local areas recalled in new book

A LOCAL historian has launched a new book detailing one of the Northside’s most interesting, historical areas. Michael J Hurley’s latest work is ‘Baldoyle, Portmarnock, Sutton, a Local History,’ telling local history from earliest times, through the Vikings, early Christianity, and into the fishing and farming community of recent centuries. The book highlights how just 200 years ago Baldoyle was a thriving fishing port with over 100 men employed in fishing and related trades.

Residents in West Malahide have suffered a number of power outages as a result of faults in the ESB Network. Since Sunday 15 November there have been 3 power cuts leaving residents in the dark and without any electricity supply for durations of up to two hours.In response to this problem I have contacted the chief executive of the ESB.
